In the book Tom Swift in the City of Gold the author would often end a sentence with an adverb that would add color, depth or humor to the narration. These later became known as “Tom Swifties.”
My mother Gloria was an English major and she not only made sure all seven of her kids used proper grammar and learned her “word of the day” but she also thoroughly enjoyed sharing a good “Tom Swifty.” So these are for you, mom!
